Spring is officially in full bloom and so is our spring cleaning routine. I’ll bet at the top of your list are your floors, too! Not sure how to get started? Here are some simple and helpful tips on how to care for your, luxury vinyl, laminate or hardwood floors.

Luxury Vinyl - Residential

The good news is you don’t need to spend a lot of money on cleaning your floors, because you may already have everything you need under your sink, or in your cleaning closet. Here are some suggestions on how to clean your luxury vinyl flooring without breaking the bank.

Using a damp mop once a week will protect against scratches and fading.

Always use a low-impact cleaning method on your vinyl floors.

Sweep Daily! Cleaning the dust and dirt off your floors helps prevent your floors against abrasion and sheen wear-off

Never use abrasive materials on your floors!

Luxury Vinyl - Commercial

In the commercial space, spending a lot of money on expensive cleaners or professional services is a thing of the past. You may already have everything you need in your existing cleaning supplies. Here are a few suggestions on how to clean your luxury vinyl flooring without breaking the bank.

We recommended mopping daily, depending on foot traffic. For stains that are concentrated in one place, try mopping in a figure-eight pattern instead of up-and-down or side-to-side. It will give your arm a break and help to lift out the stain.

Always use a low-impact cleaning method on your vinyl floors.

Just vacuum as you would at home, use a vacuum (with no beater bars) or sweep the entire area for larger pieces of debris.

Never use abrasive materials on your floors!

Laminate

Cleaning your laminate floors should be a breeze. Here are some tips and tricks to clean them effortlessly, so you’ll have more time to kick back, or enjoy the spring weather!

Avoid soap-based detergents. They can leave your floors looking unfinished.

Underneath furniture, use wide-bearing, non-staining floor protectors, such as the clear, hard plastic variety. For heavier furnishings, consider non-staining felt protectors.

You'll be tempted to, but never flood the floor with water or any other liquids!

Leverage a good microfiber mop to clean up simple day-to-day messes or dust.

Vacuum weekly using a soft brush attachment to avoid scratching the flooring. Do not use vacuums with beater bars!

Never use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or scouring powder. Do not wax, polish, or sand your laminate floors.

Promptly remove all liquid spills, especially when your favorite pet has an accident.

Hardwood

Regular cleaning and caring for your hardwood floor will protect your investment for many years to come. Bookmark or print out this guide on preventing scratches and keeping dirt from building up on your hardwood floors.

It may go without saying, but we’ll say anyway: avoid wearing hiking boots or athletic spikes on your floors.

Floor protectors underneath furniture legs are a recommended way to prevent scratching.

Always use a dust mop and/or damp mop to sweep up dirt and debris.

Floors should be dried using a fan or a soft rag after wet cleaning.

Do not use wax-based cleaners or harsh and abrasive cleaners.
